A funny new cartoon is coming soon to the Disney Channel, and it's all about PUGS!
Pugs get a lot of play in the media, tv, and hollywood. They are super photogenic and hilarious, but rarely to they get to star in their own show! That all changed with the latest pug cartoon from Disney!
Comedian Harland Williams created this awesome pug cartoon, "Puppy Dog Pals". The cartoon follows two fun-loving pugs Bingo and Rolly. Disney says this pug cartoon demonstrates positive lessons about friendship, problem-solving, collaboration, creativity and adventure. And these animated pugs get to have adventures that take them both around their neighborhood and around the world!
Guest stars for this cute pugtoon will include musician Huey Lewis, Patrick Warburton ("Family Guy"), Jack McBrayer ("30 Rock"), Cheri Oteri ("Saturday Night Live") and Mo Collins ("Fresh Off The Boat").

All pugs come with two eyes, two ears, a little squish nose and a curly little tail. you have a Pug, you most likely are wondering about the different types of ears that this breed can have..And how to keep them clean and healthy to avoid infection and other health issues.
In addition, you may have heard about the method of taping a Pug's ears and wonder if this is necessary...and if you wish to do it, just how it should be done.
We will discuss this topic and cover the issues of:
- The differences between different types of Pug ears, AKC standard and variations
- What is taping, why and how is this done
- Providing proper care to keep away infection and other problems including ear mites
Types of Ears
While there are variations of the Pug ear and each dog will have his own unique look, one element is clear with this breed: The ear is a folded, flap-over. This breed should not have fully erect ears nor should he have full, flopped dropped ears.
In regard to the fold of the leather, this may be a bit unsteady during the first year. Also, puppies that are teething may have uneven ears during this time; in most cases this straightens out and resolves itself once the teething process is complete and all adult canines are in place.
The button ear is one variation that this breed may have. For this one, notice how the ears fold forward. They are nicely , pointing toward the eyes. In almost every recognized dog show, the button ear is the preferred look for conformance events. With this said, rose ears are acceptable.
More points will usually be given to a Pug dog with button ears (ones folding down toward the dog's eyes). For proper conformation, both will be symmetrical, basically mirrored images, with neither straying from this position.
This is the other accepted variation of Pug ears. This is the rose ear. As you can see, there is quite a difference between this and the above button. With this, the each ear has a fold. It is erect at the base...And then it folds over, in a forward direction.
The above button type ends with the ears close to the face, this rose style allows for the ears to be off to the side.
If they are too off to the side, they are nicknamed "flying ears" and while it gives the dog an amusing appearance, and while it is just fine if a Pug has this type, it is not preferred in conformation events.
Part of properly grooming a Pug will involve taking care of the Pug’s ears. This is not just done for hygiene, it is done for health. Proper care will help keep guard against infection, which can be problem for this breed. Dirt, debris and excess wax can lead to ongoing infections.
It is important to note that an owner will want to clean the ears enough…but not too much. Why? Because doing this too often can cause dry skin issues; too much wax removal (a certain amount is normal and needed, as it catches dirt and debris)…and over doing it can cause yeast infections.
When you lift the Pug’s ears to look at the underneath of the flap and to see the entrance of the canal, the correct color of the skin is pink. If it is red, has any sores or shows any signs of irritation this often points to infection, mites or another issue that must be brought to the attention of the veterinarian.
Some owners ask questions about an odor that is coming from a Pug’s ears and wonder if this is normal for the breed. The answer is that it is not normal. Excess wax (and therefore excess debris within it) or an ear infection (mites, yeast, bacterial) can cause a strong, bad odor.
Therefore, if your Pug has smelly ears, you will want to perform a cleaning and then if the situation does not clear up, it will be time to bring your Pug to the veterinarian.
It is recommended to do an inspection each day. It only takes a minute and can be part of your daily routine to catch any issues early. You will want to check for the above mentioned coloring and the above mentioned possible odor.
Also, you will want to feel a Pug’s ears as the temperature of them can be a clue to possible issues. They should feel warm, and not hot, to the touch.
If you notice a build-up of thick wax or if the ears are starting to get a bit smelly, you can clean them at home:
• Solution. It is important to use the proper solution and not simply use water. Also, despite what you may have read elsewhere, please never use rubbing alcohol, as it will dry out the ears too much, causing problems. Use a chemical-free, all-natural product that is super gentle yet effective.
• Rolled Cotton: While you may use super-sized Q-tips or another cotton element, many owners find it easiest to take sterile cotton pads and roll one up. You will want it to be just about 6 inches long (no longer!)
1) First, use one hand to lift the ears of your Pug dog.
2) With your other hand, gently squirt the solution into that ear.
3) You will now need to massage it in…This is done by having your thumb on one side of the Pug’s ear and your forefinger on the other side. Simply gently press your fingers toward each other.
Do this 5-10 times. As you do this, you will usually hear a type of “squashing” sound. This means that the solution is working to break up hard, compacted wax…so it is a good sign.
Do not worry if you do not hear this, as it will just mean that the ear is clean in regard to excess buildup.
4) Now, it is time to use the cotton. You will place your finger in the middle of the rolled cotton in order to keep it firm and get it to where you need for it to be. Entering no more than 2 inches, you will rotate it around several times and then remove it.
5) Do not be surprised at what you see after removing it. The solution that you just massaged in helped to loosen compacted wax and dirt. The color of the debris that you clean up may be anywhere from a yellow to a dark brown.
You will want to repeat the above steps with each ear… You will be done when the cotton is clean when you remove it.
*** For touch-ups in between these cleanings, use a quality ear wipes to swipe out the outer canal and creases; this will prevent a good amount of 'gook' from finding its way deeper inside the ear.
Taping is a method that is meant to hold a dog's ears into a particular set in the hopes that they will eventually stay that way. Over the years, we have never seen a case of taping that actually produced results. Since this can be exceedingly time consuming and frustrating for both owner and dog, we have decided to not show the instructions for a procedure that is really just a waste of your effort.
Ear set is genetic. There is nothing that you can do to change how your Pug's ears sit. However, do note that during the teething phase, ears can get a bit off kilter. And as a Pug matures, his ears may settle in. So, final ear set sometimes will not be seen until the 12 to 18 month mark.
Mites can happen to any dog, of any breed. This is not limited to unclean dogs…and even owners who take great care of hygiene problems can find that their Pug has gotten mites.
They are very contagious. While they live in abundance in the ear, they also travel to other areas on the dog, such as the neck, chest, back and so on. And this is often how dogs catch them from one another…
When on the body, they can be transferred when 2 dogs simply rub against another while walking past, play with each other, etc. They also have the capability to jump short distances, therefore they can pass from one dog to your Pug by jumping onto the coat when in close proximity.
The Signs of this are:
- A dark discoloration of the inner ear flap and/or entrance to the canal
- A strong smelling odor coming from the Pug’s ears
- Itching – This usually manifests by the dog shaking his or her head in an attempt to relieve the discomfort
- You may see a crusty substance when looking in the canal.
Treatment - This cannot properly be treated for at home. This will need an prescribed insecticidal medication.
it is important to apply it as long as directed, even things seem to be clearing up.
In most cases, it will need to be applied for 3 weeks to ensure that all mature mites and larvae are eradicated.
A specialized flea powder should be sprinkled onto the coat of the dog to kill any mites that have traveled outside of the Pug’s ears.

Any origin story we should know about? ChaCha was born in New Mexico, on a ranch. Bettie was found in the mountains during a hiking trip. She was abandoned at only 9 weeks old.
So you guys started a company? Tell us about puggear.co? We were tired of trying find pug specific doggy toys and gear. Pugs have different safety and health needs from other dogs. Our flat noses and big eyes need special toys and gear. So we decided to start our own company and brand tailored for all flat nose dogs and pugs.
We see you invented a backpack for puppies! That’s amazing, what can you tell us about it? It's for dogs that want to be with their parents all day but can't or just don't want to walk. The Dogpack is great because our parents can pack all our gear, toys, water and food in one bag. And I can sit in it comfortably all day. I can even go places that dogs can't normally go like the store or to school. Dog can hide and be safe in the Dogpack anywhere. It's have room to add more pockets and even a water bladder for my parents. It is currently raising funds on Kickstarter.
What inspired you to create a pug friendly backpack? Pugs like to be with people all the time and now they can be. We have food and water stored in our bag so we will be happy all day.
Do you guys design many of the products at PugGear? In the coming months we will design more pug products. Now we carry generic items.
We see you have a tiny human living with you, who is it? That is our new baby bother Nash, he is small and stinks. But we love him and give him kisses all day.
What’s it like living with a baby?!? Great he make funny noises and smells. Plus we eat all the extra baby food he drops on the ground.
Chacha Your Greatest Talent? I can sit on a window ledge like a cat and bite bees. Even though I am allergic to them. Bettie is a world champion cuddlier and sleeper. She can sleep and cuddle anywhere and anytime.
Do you have a favorite toy? (good place to plug a product) Our hotdog bed taste great to chew on and is very comfortable.
Do you sleep in or wake everybody up? ChaCha is not a morning pug, Bettie is a early riser.
Whats your dream date? A night eating all the extra cheese in the house and farting myself to sleep.
Anything Else You’d Like To Add (other products to pitch, good causes, etc)? Don't forget to help us reach our goal on Kickstarter and share the Dogpack!
Game of Thrones with Pugs!?!?The Pugs of Middle Earth!?!? You guys know we are big nerds here at pugcity.org, so of course we are huge huge huge fans of @pupstarsonoma and their fantasy loving pugs!
Who Is Pup Star Sonoma? Susan and Phillip Lauer and our three pugs, Roxy, Blue and Bono
Where did you guys get the names Roxy, Blue and Bono? Roxy’s name kind of came to us while we were driving her home for the first time…We’d discussed many names and had it down to a few but she was so sweet but also so spunky, Roxy just seemed to fit. Blue was the color of the length of yarn tied around his neck as a puppy so you could tell all his siblings apart from one another. Roxy, for instance, was Pink. Blue fit him as a name too so he kept it. Bono came to us with this name. He's our little rockstar…so he got to keep the name.
Do you guys have any nicknames? Roxy: Peanut, BabyGirl, SweetPea, Munchy (short for munchkin) Blue: BooBoo, BlueSchmoo Bono: BabyDog, Baby, Little Man
We see your amazing costumes, who makes them? Susan makes all the costumes, and most of the accessories and props for our photo shoots.
How did you get started with sci-fi fantasy costumes? First came costumes for Halloween contests and Holiday cards. Then the costumes evolved into more elaborate pieces with scenes that help tell the story or showed off the costume details. The costumes and sets in The Lord Of The Rings movies really inspired us. After doing a few of those, we were hooked!
The Pugs of Westeros is our favorite! What inspired you to do a Game of Thrones themed photo series? Everything we’d done prior. GoT was a natural and we’d become dedicated fans of the series so we were compelled to create the characters. The funny thing is that while watching the series, we could envision each of our pugs as certain characters!
If each of you was a G.O.T character who would you each be? Roxy: Daenerys Targaryen Blue: Ned Stark Bono: Jon Snow
Any stories from the photo shoot you’d like to share? Hmmm...no real funny or dramatic stories to share from a photo shoot. However, for the Pugs of Westeros video we really were not sure how smoothly things would go. There were 2 days of shooting, many costume and locations changes, extra people on the sets, tons of camera equipment, distractions and props... But the 3 pugs were total professionals and things went along quite smoothly. It was an amazing experience. I think the highlight though was the final shot on the last day of studio shooting, Roxy on the Iron Throne as King Joffrey Baratheon; with two little words (where’s mommy) she let out a series of whiny chirps just like King Joffrey! The timing was extraordinary and we kept it in the final cut of the video.
Now Bono, what’s Your Greatest Talent? Well, if you mean tricks...Roxy can do the most amount of tricks around here. I can play fetch and volleyball (bouncing a small soft toy off my nose back to Mom or Dad) but I think my greatest talent is getting people to fall in love with me. I like to zero in on certain people, calmly sit on their laps, give a snuff-snuff on their cheeks (no tongue) and maybe bat my eyes a few times. In return I get a "oh, Bono" from them and then they don't want to let me go. Plus Im the best pillow fighter!
Bono, whats your favorite snack/treat? We each have our favorites. Roxy loves eggs. Blue goes crazy for chicken. I love cheese! These are all super special treats that we do not get very often. But when we do...oh boy!
Whats the best part of living in Sonoma? We like the weather here. It doesn't get too hot or too cold. There are a lot of parks with beautiful views nearby. Our favorite off-leash beach is 30 minutes away and there are enough fun things to do around here without having to go too far.
Bono, whats your dream date? My dream date would have to involve people calling out my name and adoring me, lots of treats, going someplace interesting...like a rockstar!
Do you have a favorite toy? I have many! I love all of my toys equally. Every night I dig through my toy boxes (I have 4 large ones) to find the perfect toy to play fetch with. My mom and dad love that I sometimes pull out the funniest awkward toy to play fetch with or I find something that they bought years ago and I finally think it's the best toy ever.
Do you have any bad habits? I like to knock the pillows off the couch...especially at other people's houses. You should see my mom's face when I do it! I also like to steal rubber door stops. I just can't stand it when my mom puts them under the door...it's ridiculous! She tries to stick them in there really tight...like that is going to stop me from getting it out. She also tries to put it back when I'm not around thinking I wouldn't notice. But I always find the time to dig them out. She gave up buying them because I see to it they are never used as door stops. Why do I do it? Because I’m a rockstar!
What does a typical day look like for you besides putting on costumes and bouncing around middle earth? Our dad gets up early for work and feeds us. Then we go back to bed with our mom. We like to start our day with morning stretches and massages. After some mom stuff we do pug maintenance (eye meds, face cleaning, walks). Usually while our mom does gardening or house cleaning stuff we like to do our sunbathing. I love sunbathing! If our mom doesn't have errands to run, she works on projects for us and that means we do some modeling. Modeling = extra cookies! Usually once a week, one of us gets to go to work with our dad. It's usually me since I'm the pug mascot! It’s an important job.
Anything Else You’d Like To Add? When we first started doing costumes for the pugs (2007) we really did not plan on doing it on the scale that we do now. In fact, way back when, it was considered silly to dress your pet up. It is wonderful to see the pet costumes/clothes market and acceptance grow over the years. We love looking at all of the adorable photos! How long will we keep doing this? Well, we have a long list of ideas and have always said as long as our pugs are able and willing.
Where can people find you online? Our complete portfolio is on our website at www.pupstarsonoma.com. That is the best place to view our photos full-screen (best navigated/viewed on an iPad or computer screen).
The best pug super hero costumes!Thats right, I need a hero! And perhaps that hero is secretly just a pug in disguise.
Meet Mochi ~ motorcycle riding, ice skating, pug inspiration for THE BEST PUG COMIC STRIP EVER ~ illustrated by the super talented Gemma Gené of @157ofGemma fame! This week we sat down with Gemma's muse and all around cutie ~ Mochi the Pug ~ for our Pug Talk feature!
Where does the name 157ofGemma come from? Something about my mami…she always says that 157ofgemma started before I was born and that wasn’t about me but that is just silly!
Where did you get the name Mochi? My mami says I look like and I am as delicious as mochi, the Japanese ice cream, and I agree!!
What are some of your nicknames? So many! Angelet, which stands for Little angel, Amorcito (little love), Pistachio, Titi…I have no idea where that came from…and so on and so forth…
Is it hard being the muse to such amazing cartoons? Yes it is! It is a very intense job! I wake up and I inspire, inspire, and inspire all day!! It is exhausting! So I have to sleep a lot! To be true, I am very inspiring while I sleep as well.
We see your mom is also a fine artist, where can we find some of her artwork? You can find her artwork at www.gemmagene.com and on INSTAGRAM and FACEBOOK and the best part is that since I am also a studio assistant (aka. Pugssistant) I am in most of the photos.
Do you join your mom in the studio? Yes! I am a full time pugssistant! My main job is to remind mami to take many snack and nap breaks!
We know you moved to NYC from Barcelona. Was the transition difficult? I came to NYC when I was an 8 month old puppy, it was a happy transition because we first moved just next to the river side park and I had so many friends!
What do you miss most about Spain? Jamón 🍖
Mochi, what do you love most about living in NYC? I have a friend who works at a restaurant and every time he sees me he comes out to give me bacon, which is very nice.
Is it fun riding on a motorbike? Not super fun because I just want to lay down and sleep but apparently it is very dangerous or something…I prefer the car, or just being carried, I think that is my favorite.
Mochi, what’s your greatest talent? Not many people know but I can do a headstand, and when I do everyone gets very excited about it.
Whats your favorite snack/treat? Table food! Unless it’s green…
What are your favorite activities? I really enjoy the outdoors but my super favorite is sleeping I think.
Do you sleep in or wake everybody up? I sleep in, I get very annoyed when papi leaves for work and wakes us up and then when mami’s alarm goes off it is my job to distract her so we can continue sleeping.
Do you have a favorite toy? I have several favorite toys, I really like one that my mami got for me when we were stuck in an airport in Paris, I didn’t expect it and it made me so happy!
What is your opinion on walks? I love going for walks, but I hate actually walking!
What’s your dream date? I really like female pugs, specially if they are round and older than me, what can I say, I have a type! I’ve got several girlfriends and a dream date would include a great walk in the park, followed by some treats and maybe play date at home but nothing else, one day a girl stayed over for a weekend and that was so weird because I usually sleep with my parents but she can’t so I had to keep her company all night…not so much fun

Get ready for the Queen of Pug Costumes, the Bae of Bantha, the cutest Star Wars pug of all time! Chubbs The Wampug!!!! We here at PugCity are huge Star Wars fans, and so we are crushing so hard on the one and only Chubbs! This week she joins us for our Pug Talk interview. <3 <3 <3
Where are you from? I’m originally from a wonderful breeder in Tucson, Arizona. Miss Karen Radcliff of Desert Moon Pugs
How old are you? I’ll be 14 on December 28th and I think I look pretty hot for a mature lady pug.
Any other animals in the family? Nope, just me! I was raised with 4 kitties when I was young. Sadly they have all passed on, so it’s just me now and that’s how I like it!
What can you tell us about getting the name Chubbs The Wampug? Well my official name is Viva Las Vegas of Desert Moon Pugs, so mamma called me Vegas for short. But after my first birthday I began filling out and mamma started calling me Chubbs and it stuck! So I’ve been Chubbs ever since! The Wampug part is obviously for my Wampa costume from Star Wars. That was how people first began to know me and we love it.
Why are you so into Star Wars? Cause it’s only the best movie EVER! Plus mamma and daddy are huge fans. They met thanks to a website daddy owned called The Dented Helmet. And now Star Wars IS daddy’s job. I guess you could say they both are kids that grew up with Star Wars and never out grew it.
Are you excited about the Rogue One Movie? Oh you have no idea!! I am super excited as is all of my family!
What’s Your Greatest Talent? To melt hearts all over the world <3
Whats your favorite snack/treat? Strawberries!!
What Are Your Favorite activities? Sleeping, eating, begging for snackies, taking pictures, swimming with mamma (ok not really but I said that to make her feel good), snuggling on daddy or mamma’s lap to watch tv, doing our weekly live streaming on Facebook.com/Chubbsthepug every Wednesday at 6:30pm PST. Oh, did I mention eating?
Whats your dream date?
It would be for me and my boyfriend Chester to go see Empire Strikes Back on the big screen and eat strawberries together, then go out for strawberry shakes!
Do you have a favorite toy? Mammma’s hand as it provides the snackies!
Do you have any bad habits? Of course not! Now if you were to ask mamma, she might say rubbing my nose on everything or sneezing in her face - I call them sprays of love. She’s also a fan of when she wraps up my pills in a pill pocket and I spit them out repeatedly and eat the pill pocket and not the pill. Don’t tell her but that is my favorite!!
What does a typical day look like for you? I lay in bed till mamma comes and wakes me with some ear rubs then does all my eye treatments and brushes my teeth and gives my supplements and medications. Once she is ready we head to work where I patrol the staff room for food and bark at the other dogs, and offer mamma moral support. Then I bark at her to let her know it’s time to go home for lunch. I get to hang out with daddy at home for the afternoon since he works at home. He gives me snackies he probably shouldn’t so don’t tell mamma ;) Then I nap till mamma comes home for dinner. We have our evening routine of meds, supplements, me barking for treats and dinner, then we get online and check out all my social media accounts. You may think she’s the one behind them all but all she does is type. I tell her what to post. Then we watch some tv on the couch and snuggle until bed time! You’d think it would get old but everyday it’s like a brand new day and I’m excited all over again!
Which is your favorite star wars costume?Defiitely the Wampug as that was the one that got me known around the world and opened up all the opportunities to meet, connect, and help people and pets all over the world!
Anything Else You’d Like To Add? I’m so very greatful to all my friends who follow me on my various pages. I’m truly a blessed puggie and I love spreading puggie joy and happiness all over the world. I love being able to help rescues all over the country to raise money for pets not as fortunate as me. Thank you to all my online friends who help me be able to do that!
Where can people find you online?
...and of course my website Wampug.com where we will have a store opening soon with lots of cool shirts featuring my costumes to help raise money for pug rescue!
