In modern times, this breed is known for being entertaining because of their crazy antics and adorable faces. Even the term grumble, which means a group of pugs, is hilarious and very appropriate.

These little animated memes are the best thing to come out of the 21st century so far! The real name is Graphics Interchange Format and they are a type of bitmap image by the old early internet company CompuServe in 1987. The gif has certainly come a long way from those early days!!! 

1. Most people using GIFS today aren’t old enough to remember its release in 1987!

2. Its pronounced “JIF”
   Steve Wilhite settled the battle. Its pronounced with a J like Jiffy or Jifferentiatism. Not with a G like Gift. 

3. GIFS weren’t originally meant for animation. The creators wanted to make a standard image format. JPEGS didn’t even exist yet!!! Computer programmers were just trying to get a simple way to transfer images across the data-sphere.

4. GIFS almost died in 2006. Nobody was using them. Its only in 2013 that they made a crazy comeback due to cell phones making it really easy to send wacky images and young people taking it up as a method of communication (though the term communication here is questionable!)

5. GIFS and Windows 2.0 are around the same age. At the time of the GIF most people were using DOS operating system! Not even web browsers existed back then and you navigated your computer by typing code into a black screen.
